About

Hi there!  You probably want to know a bit about me...

Well, let's see...  I'm a northern gal raised a stone's throw south of Detroit in a community of transplanted Hillbillies.  I moved to Ohio for college where I met the love of my life and married him in 1995.  A year after we married we packed up and headed for sunny Florida where we spent 9 years.  While we were there we expanded our family by one awesome little guy in 2000.  Three direct hits from hurricanes and one lightening strike later, we packed up and headed for central Indiana where we've been ever since.

We live in a small town in a rural community, but long for some acreage in the country where we can be self-sufficient and raise chickens, goats and cows.  Until then, I'm learning how to hone my homesteading skills.  I'm also a stay-at-home(schooling)-mama, so my job is to keep on finding new ways to save money.  This is where I'll share my attempts, recipes and the occasional tale from my life.

So, thanks for coming by.  I hope you find something here that helps, inspires or amuses you.  Don't be a stranger!

  1. Glad to find you.

I love central Indiana & Indiana in general. New Albany is just across the river from me.

I'm pretty much in your situation -wishing we had more land but doing the best with what we have.

    2. Hi
This is a great site and the eye cream recie is so easy - only one thing that bothers me is putting the coconut oil in the microwave - putting anything in the microwave changes it's molecular strcture and not for the better! So maybe just a pot of warm water would be better. I u7se coconut oil to remove my make-up using a soft face cloth or even better, muslin. Keep up the good work. Kim

  4. I came upon your blog via Pinterest...can't wait to try some of the skin care treatments! I have very sensitive skin and all store products make me break out. I first used Coconut Oil in homemade diaper cream a couple of years ago and it is the best. Thanks for sharing all you great info.

We too strive towards self-sufficiency and just bought a house with some land in GA. This will be my first year planting a garden and we are just about to build our chicken coop!

    Best wishes.

  5. Hi, Pam. I just re-discovered your blog through another crafty blog this morning. I'd come across your blog before but had forgotten about it. I'm glad to have re-discovered it! Your natural skin-care recipes are now on my to-do list...to save money and to be healthy.

I was born and lived in Kansas all my three decades of life, but just a couple of months ago, my husband and I moved to Michigan. We live around the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area. I read that you were from up here originally. I'm learning to like it here, but am still in a stage of preferring the lower Midwest, especially Kansas!

    Thanks for sharing these recipes.

    1. Hi Mrs. H! Welcome back to my blog! I've never been to Kansas, but I'm glad your adjusting to life in The Mitten. I've been to the area you live a few times. I grew up in Monroe, on the shores of Lake Erie. Not too far from where you are now.

      Thanks for reading!

    1. Hi Jaime!

There is a mailbox on the right hand side of my blog that says "e-mail me". If you click that it should work for you next time. :-)

  7. Glad to have found you! I'm also a stay at home homeschooler. I have three who finished and are in their 20's, and three teens. I love it! I so relate to your dream of being on some acreage and being self-sufficient. We live on 6 acres (renting) but it's all trees and poison ivy. :/

I started a blog a few months ago that has some of my writing, as well as organization tips, recipes, and whatever hits me as something to share. You can check it out if you like. www.overwhelmingpeace.wordpress.com

I'll be making some of the eye cream today. I have everything on hand, including the little sample jelly jar. My poor allergic eyes need it. Thanks for posting the recipe.
